The SSRL Retro Series is bringing sexy back, all the way back to the 2003 Winston Cup Series! Do you want to race "Old School" and recreate some of the best racing NASCAR history has to offer? Tighten down those belts one more time and clean out that carburetor, let's get a clean start!
SSRL Retro Series Procedures and Format
The 2024 SSRL Retro Series will run a 10 race schedule. This series will follow all of the rules and regulations from the iRacing Sporting Code of Conduct unless otherwise noted below.

Section 1: General Series Overview
Number Assignments
Numbers are chosen on a first come-first serve basis, going in order of receipt of their registration. Numbers will be 1 or 2 digit numbers. The numbers must be clearly displayed on either side of your vehicle and on the roof. Any number that is the same color as the car and is not easily visible will not be allowed to race. Any driver that competes with the incorrect number on their car will receive a 10 point penalty, so please make sure your paint is correct!
Race Times and Procedures
Practice will open at 8:20 EST.
Qualifying will start at 9:00 EST, 8:55 EST for Super Speedways
Once qualifying is completed, then the session will advance to “WARMUP.” DO NOT TAKE THE TRACK IN WARMUP, THIS IS FOR THE DRIVERS MEETING.
Gridding will begin at 9:10 EST, with a 55 second grid time. Don't be late!
Entry Limitations
The race will cap at 40 competitors. If more than 40 people are attempting to qualify, then alternates may be allowed to race, at league discretion. In the event that more than 43 drivers are attempting to qualify, then the league will implement “Knock-out Qualifying.” This will be further explained in Section 3: In-Race Rules.
Race Points
See Appendix A for the race points table.
Race Bonus Points
The driver that wins Pole Position will be awarded 5 bonus points.
Any driver leading a lap during the race will be awarded 1 bonus point.
The driver that leads the most laps in each race will be awarded 2 bonus points.
Any driver with a clean race (0x) will be awarded 1 bonus point.
The driver that wins the Hard Charger award will be awarded 2 bonus points.
Hard Charger Eligibility
In order to be eligible for the Hard Charger award, you must make an attempt to qualify, and be within 7.5% of the pole time. Example: Bristol pole 14.946, minimum time 16.069 (14.946 x 1.075 = 16.069). Watkins Glen Pole Time 1:12.447, minimum time 1:17.881 (72.447 x 1.075 = 77.881). If you attempt a pole time, but do not get a time due to incident contact or another DQ, you WILL NOT be eligible. You MUST post an official time.
Stage Points
Stage break bonus points will be awarded at the completion of the posted stage break lap. The bonus points will be 10 for 1st, 9 for 2nd, 8 for 3rd, and continuing in descending order until 10th place who will receive 1 bonus point. If the caution comes out within three (3) laps of the stage end, then the field will be frozen at the caution lap and bonus points will be awarded. If the caution comes out four (4) laps or more prior to the stage end, then the stage end will be the completion of the original stage end OR at the completion of the next full green flag lap. EXAMPLE: The scheduled stage end is lap 20. If the caution comes out on lap 17, then bonus points will be awarded at the completion of lap 17. However, if the caution comes out on lap 16 and the green flag comes out on lap 21, then the stage end bonus would be awarded on the completion of lap 21. No caution will be thrown for a one-lap stage shootout.
Special Awards

Special Awards Tie Breakers
1st tiebreak: Highest finisher in points
2nd tiebreak: Most wins
3rd tiebreak: Most top 5’s
4th tiebreak: Most top 10’s
5th tiebreak: Coin flip, best 3 out of 5
Broadcasting
There currently is no plan for a broadcast for this series, unless a sponsor is fund. If you are interested in sponsoring a broadcast, please reach out to league administration.
Discord
Every driver must be present in the Spartan SimRacing League Cup Series Discord.
Section 2: League Leadership
Race Administration
Each race will have at least one race administrator. Decisions made by race administration are final. Race Administration may be competing in the races.
Section 3: In-Race Rules
Knock-Out Qualifying
In the event that there are more than 40 participants that have shown up to race, Knock-Out Qualifying will be implemented. For the first 5 races of the season, qualifying is open and anyone has the opportunity to qualify into the race. On race 6, the top 25 in current point standings will be locked into the race. The remaining field will be filled in, up to 40 drivers. The Race Director, at his discretion, can add up to 43 starters, if there are available pit stalls for the track.
Cautions
The Race Director has the option to throw a caution if iRacing does not do so. As a general rule of thumb, a single car spin that is off track will not warrant a caution. However, a multiple car spin/crash off of the racing surface may get an Admin caution. Keep in mind that the Race Director can not see the whole track at once. Not all incidents may be seen. There will be no discussion post-race on whether a caution should have been thrown or not.
iRace Control
The SSRL will use the iRace Control program. This race control program will track incidents and have the ability to use an “Auto Steward.” The “Auto Steward” is used to track incidents and give penalties when needed. The race report will be posted in the Discord post-race for everyone to see.
Fast Repairs
There will be zero (0) fast repair available.
Drop Weeks
There will be 2 drop weeks available.
Race Pace
The minimum race pace will be calculated using this formula. Once qualifying has completed, the 10th place qualifying time will be noted. 115% of that time will be the minimum race time. If you are unable to get above that time for 3 consecutive laps, then you will be asked to continue fixing your car. If it is fully fixed and you are still unable to maintain the minimum speed, then you will be asked to park for the night. Example; the 10th place qualifying time is 23.458, this will be multiplied by 1.15 to get the minimum speed (time) of 26.977.
Penalties
There will be no in-race penalties given for incidents, other than the maximum incident limit for disqualification. Penalties will be assessed post-race, using the “at-fault” incidents accumulated. For each 4 “at-fault” incident points received, you will be deducted 10 championship points. This will be done on a cumulative basis. Example 1: If you accumulate 17 “at-fault” incidents throughout the season, you will be deducted 40 championship points. Example 2: If you accumulate 46 “at-fault” incidents throughout the season, you will be deducted 110 championship points.
Tire Limits
Tire limits will be set on a race by race basis.
Race Finish
There will be 3 attempts at a Green-White-Checker, unless otherwise specified.
Section 4: Appeals
Appeals Procedure
If you have a ruling or a penalty that needs to be appealed, please follow the following steps.
Post your appeal in the “Appeals” channel of the Discord, that includes a brief description of the incident. Include the lap that the incident happened, and a video snip of the incident. The video should preferably be the actual race replay, so that the appeals members can view telemetry and different camera angles.
Black Flags
Black flags will be cleared at a driver's request. However, all black flags will be reviewed by the Race Director following the race. If you are granted a black flag cleared during the race, it will be your responsibility to report to the “Appeals” voice channel following the race for the appeal review. If it is deemed that the black flag should have remained, you will be disqualified and given last place points. If you do not visit the “Appeals” voice channel within 5 minutes of the conclusion of the race, it will be assumed that you do not want to fulfill your appeal. The appeal will be denied and you will be disqualified and given a last place finish. All decisions by the Appeals Committee are final.
